Renewable Energy Group®, Inc. Welcomes Winkel as Biodiesel General Manager

(Ralston, Iowa) –Renewable Energy Group®, Inc. (REG) welcomes Derek Winkel as a biodiesel plant general manager.

Winkel serves as the general manager of Central Iowa Energy; a REG constructed and managed biodiesel plant in Newton, Iowa. Winkel oversees and optimizes biodiesel production, acts as a liaison to the board of directors, coordinates relationships with vendors and contractors as well as oversees safety and environmental regulations.

"I joined REG because of the opportunity to join the leader in biodiesel and be a part of this rapidly expanding industry with the company that is positioned be the most successful,” explained Winkel. “I am looking forward to the challenges of my position and meeting those challenges to make Central Iowa Energy the most profitable and efficient biodiesel producer possible.”

Winkel added he looks forward to helping Central Iowa Energy maximize efficiency and profitability, recruit and retain high quality staff, implement an excellent safety program with no lost time accidents, be a positive contributor to the community and be a responsible environmental steward.

Winkel joins REG from Ethanol 2000, a Broin-managed company where he served as technical manager for five years. He has been involved in the chemical and manufacturing industry for almost ten years. Winkel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University.

Central Iowa Energy is a 30-mmgy biodiesel facility located in Newton, Iowa. The plant produces SoyPOWER® brand biodiesel which is marketed by Renewable Energy Group, Inc., a full-service biodiesel company leading the industry in biodiesel sales.
