Central Iowa Energy Update
Greetings from Central Iowa Energy.
I apologize for not giving you an update the past couple of weeks. Regarding the unit certificates, they are printed but I am waiting to send them out until we decide on a date for our construction kick-off. I would like to include everything into one mailing. I will pass that date along to you as soon as we make a final decision. I expect that mailing to go out the week of May 15th.
Here are some pictures of the site.I apologize for not including any pictures of the dirt pile, but it is no longer getting any bigger.
- The first picture is of the foundation to the maintenance building. This building must be built first to give welders and others an enclosed workspace.
- The second picture is a crane dumping concrete for footings and walls.
- The third picture is of the footings for the pre-cast concrete structure separating the process building from the pretreatment building. This structure will house the monitoring equipment for the plant.
- The fourth, fifth and sixth pictures are of the footings and foundation to the process building and pretreatment building.
- The seventh picture is of the base to the rail bed.
- Finally, the eighth picture is of the foundation to one of the tanks in the tank farm.
I spoke with the site superintendent from Todd & Sargent today and he told me they are currently 47 workers on site. They expect to begin erecting the pre-cast structure and the maintenance building this week and hopefully the process building by the middle of next week.

Another interesting note, in a recent producer survey conducted by the soybean check-off, they found that one in two (50%) of soybean farmers now use soy biodiesel. Of the farmers who are not currently using biodiesel, the biggest reason they cite is lack of availability.
